Stonier and the Mornington Peninsula have subsequently built their world-renowned reputation on these two varieties, as the region’s cool maritime climate makes for the perfect canvas to bring these varieties to life. It has embarked on a serious sustainability program that touches on all aspects of its operations. It is one of the few wineries in Australia to measure its carbon footprint in detail, using the officially recognised system of the Winemaker’s Federation of Australia.
A best barrel selection from all vineyards, focusing on structural strength and fruit depth (rather than fruit purity). This release included the Windmill, KBS, Merrons and Gainsborough Vineyards plus 40% whole bunch ex W-WB. This has more depth and structure to its red and dark berry fruits backed by balanced and integrated tannins, the oak absorbed.
96 points Toni Paterson MW – The Real Review
A fabulously complex wine with gorgeous layers. Around the core of lemony fruit, you will find hints of nougat and meringue. I adore the tightness of the palate. Although it is restrained, it is extremely detailed. Highly recommended
The Reserve brings the individual vineyard components together. Ample colour and flavour but with a certain level of restraint. It’s a taut style. It tastes of peach, grapefruit, toast and cedarwood, a touch of lactose/honeycomb thrown in. Lovely length, a touch of mineral there, though it still feels coiled. It’ll be better in a year or two.

Medium to deep red/purple, a youthful and bright colour. The bouquet is stemmy with hints of root vegetables, and it’s rich and dense with slightly chewy tannins and a lot of structure. A powerful, generously-proportioned pinot with more grunt than typical Stonier pinots and quite reserved in its evolution.
Here we have Stonier’s Reserve Pinot Noir in fine form. It’s firm, powerful and persistent. It’s a complete sentence; a statement. It’s loaded with twiggy spice notes, almost into clove territory, but the wine’s cherry-plum fruit has real power to it, and while there’s a boost of oak it feels appropriate. It’s a wine that wants to be taken seriously and deserves to be.
